Black-and-white shading puzzles
In a shading puzzle you decide, square by square, which cells turn black and which stay white. The numbers on the board tell you how many, how far or what shape, and a few rules about how black cells may touch do the rest. Nonogram and Mosaic end in a picture; Nurikabe, Heyawake, Hitori and Kurodoko are classics from the Japanese puzzle magazine Nikoli. You can play all of them here, free, in your browser.
